Dressed in historical costume and equipped with a halberd, a lantern and a horn, the night watchman Bernard Bruch is now returning to Emsdetten. 

He takes his guests on a journey back to an Emsdetten of times long past and has many anecdotes from the 19th century to share – when Emsdetten was still a village, yet already had a good twenty inns and was beginning to develop economically. Passing by striking landmarks in the town centre such as the old town hall, the railway station, St Pankratius’ Church and the villas around the Volksbank and Sparkasse, he recounts his duties as a night watchman, but also about the lives of the tub-makers, how Emsdetten was connected to the railway, and brings the history – and the stories – back to life.
