Emsdetten Skyline

The Emsdetten Skyline brings together well-known places, landmarks, and themes characteristic of the city to create a distinctive overall image. It is more than just a graphic representation: The individual elements tell the story of what makes Emsdetten special and, at the same time, reflect the areas of focus of the tourism association—from nature and outdoor activities to culture and events, and on to the downtown area, culinary delights, community, and city life.

In this way, the skyline becomes a visual reflection and a central design element: It connects different places and themes and showcases what makes Emsdetten a great place to live and so special.

The skyline is composed of various, interlocking elements. Flat, multi-story forms alternate with open elements, creating a dynamic overall image. Each motif represents a specific location as well as themes associated with Emsdetten (from left to right).

Reinermann’s Footbridge: The Ems River , water, and cycling—the footbridge symbolizes the Ems as a defining feature of the city and Emsdetten as an active cycling town.
Emsdettener Venn Observation Tower: Nature , open spaces, and greenery: The observation tower references the Emsdettener Venn and the unique natural areas surrounding the city.
House Gable: Home , City, and Leisure: The house gable represents Emsdetten as a place to live, call home, and feel at ease.
EMS-HALLE & Galerie Münsterland: Sports , art, culture, and events: Two venues that represent Emsdetten’s diverse cultural and event scene.
Hof Deitmar: Museums , community, culture, and volunteerism: Hof Deitmar brings together history, culture, and community life in the heart of the countryside.
St. Pankratius Church: Landmark , architectural heritage, monuments, and city life: The church shapes the cityscape and embodies Emsdetten’s history.
Morgentau Fountain: Art , downtown, market, and enjoyment: The fountain combines a striking work of art with the lively heart of the city.
City Hall: Politics , People, and Home: City Hall represents Emsdetten’s community and public life.
Shed Roofs: Industry , History, and Economy: These characteristic roofs serve as a reminder of the town’s industrial past and the importance of the textile industry to Emsdetten.
St. Mary’s Church: Community , Faith, and Neighborhoods: St. Mary’s Church symbolizes a sense of belonging and the diverse life in Emsdetten’s neighborhoods.

In principle, the Skyline may also be used by institutions, clubs, event organizers, and other stakeholders to demonstrate their connection to Emsdetten and to jointly promote the city to the outside world. Commercial use on merchandise and political use of the Skyline are not permitted. To ensure a consistent and recognizable presentation, there are clear guidelines on the use of the various elements and on design. These are summarized in a brief handout.
