Emsdettener Acht
Let's Kick Off the Biking Season Together
When the days get longer and the first warm rays of sunshine make you want to get moving, it’s time for the “Emsdettener Acht.” Every year, this popular traditional event invites cycling enthusiasts of all ages to kick off the new cycling season together. Whether you’re a family, a casual cyclist, or an ambitious touring rider—the focus here is on the shared experience.
The starting and finishing point is the Kulturhof Deitmar, which transforms into a lively gathering place for all cycling fans on this day. From here, two varied, signposted loop routes lead through the charming countryside around Emsdetten. The routes can be taken individually or combined, and offer plenty of opportunities along the way for short breaks, conversations, and enjoying the Münsterland countryside.

Big raffle with a great grand prize
At several stops along the route, dedicated volunteers invite participants to take a short break and create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Anyone who collects at least three stamps on their participation card along the way can look forward to the traditional raffle in the afternoon, featuring attractive prizes—a popular highlight that brings the day of cycling together to a festive close.
What makes the Emsdettener Acht special is its relaxed atmosphere: riding together, meeting people who share a love of cycling, and spending an active day with family, friends, or neighbors—that’s exactly what the event has stood for over the years.
The Emsdettener Acht traditionally takes place at the end of April and marks the official start of the new season for many cyclists. Year after year, it attracts numerous participants and has long been one of the highlights of the city’s event calendar.
The Emsdettener Acht is traditionally held in April. The exact date will be posted here in early 2027.
